Rambus has announced the availability of its fourth-generation RCD (Register Clock Driver) chip for DDR5 memory, as reported by Wccftech. The RCD chip plays a crucial role in products like RDIMMs, caching signals such as addresses, commands, and control from memory controllers, essential for server-grade memory modules.

Features of the RCD Chip

The DDR5 fourth-generation RCD chip from Rambus supports a clock frequency of 3600MHz and an effective rate of 7200MT/s. In practical terms, this translates to a memory bandwidth 1.5 times that of the first-generation DDR5-4800, meeting the demands of AI generation and other advanced data center workloads more effectively.

Additionally, the RCD chip operates at a standard VDD voltage of 1.1V, ensuring lower power consumption. It also features an I3C bus interface with speeds up to 5MHz.
